Getting Started
System Requirements
SunMule runs in a web browser, so you can use the devices you already have. This page covers devices, network and the Honey Badger device that connects SunMule to your tanning beds.
Devices
SunMule needs no installation. Open it in a current browser on any of these, or install it as an app if you prefer (see Mobile and offline):
Computers: Windows 10 or newer, macOS 10.14 or newer, ChromeOS, or a current Linux distribution.
Tablets: iPad (5th generation or newer), iPad Air 2 or newer, any iPad Pro, iPad mini 4 or newer, or an Android 8.0+ tablet with at least 3 GB of RAM.
Phones: iPhone 8 or newer (iOS 14+) or an Android 8.0+ phone with at least 3 GB of RAM.
For a front desk or room-control workstation, a computer or tablet with a 10-inch or larger screen works best.
Performance tip
The room control screen updates in real time. If it feels slow on a shared workstation, dedicate a device to room control.
Browsers
Use a current version of Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge or Safari (14 or newer). Internet Explorer is not supported. JavaScript and cookies must be enabled so you can stay signed in.
Network
SunMule requires an internet connection.
- Minimum: 5 Mbps download and 1 Mbps upload.
- Recommended: 25 Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload, with latency under 100 ms.
- Each location needs its own internet connection. A backup connection, such as cellular failover, is recommended.
- WiFi: WPA2 or better, with solid coverage across the salon.
Internet dependency
SunMule cannot take sales or start sessions without an internet connection. Customer-facing screens that were already loaded may remain visible when you are offline, but you should plan for backup connectivity. See Mobile and offline.
Honey Badger requirements
The Honey Badger replaces the T-Max Manager that normally connects your computer to the tanning bed timers. SunMule room control and inventory features are available once a salon's Honey Badger is online. See Equipment control for how it works.
- Compatibility: Works with T-Max timer networks, whether the old manager used RS-232 serial or USB.
- Power: A standard power outlet near your timer network.
- WiFi: A WPA2 (or better) network with reliable coverage where the device is installed.
- Placement: Within WiFi range, close to the timer network connection, protected from moisture and extreme temperatures.
Multiple locations
Each location needs its own internet connection, its own Honey Badger (if it uses room control) and staff devices that meet the requirements above. Customer, plan and reporting data is shared across the company automatically.
